There's something to be said for movies that both sexes want to see. Modern romantic movies have that romantic appeal that makes us all want to fall in love at the drop of a hat, but also bring reality into play, so it isn't all puppy dogs and rainbows. Hey, just because you're on a date doesn't mean you're stuck watching a Kate Hudson movie. Check out our list of 10 date movies guys and gals will both enjoy.

* KNOCKED UP. Single girl gets promotion and goes out to celebrate, deadbeat guy goes out to celebrate nothing, the two drink too much, go back and get busy and six weeks later girl finds out she's pregnant. It isn't a romantic recipe, but it is reality in some cases and this hilarious movie brings to life the idea of going the distance for someone you're still getting to know. This is a light-hearted film for the most part, but it does get serious towards the end (sorry!), making it a great movie to watch on date night.
* THE 40 YEAR OLD VIRGIN. This is another Judd Apatow film, but the guy just knows how to mix laughs with heartfelt moments like no one else. This adorable movie is about a guy who hasn't quite gotten there yet and his experience with friends and a very special woman who help him along the way. It's funny, it's sweet and we're sure your date will appreciate some of the awkward moments. Hey, you may as well see how they react during funny moments.
* JUNO. This movie is all about two kids who aren't really in love, but do the deed and in the end, end up somewhere between puppy love and real love. It's a funny movie with characters that you can't help but love. It's all about how life is going to go, where it decides to go, and sometimes, there's not much we can do about that, especially when it comes to love. The couple that seemingly has it all doesn't have any real love left to build up and the two kids who are an unlikely pair end up facing a tough time together and come out of things alive.
* LOVE, ACTUALLY. This is a holiday movie, but it makes us feel warm and fuzzy year round. You have a few different stories to follow in this film and since it involves characters going through various phases of a crazy little thing called love, you and your date will both relate. There are long marriages, short romances, love at first sight and affairs all packed into a lovely little British movie that will make you feel as happy and cozy as the holiday season.
* GOOD WILL HUNTING. This one's a little intense, but ultimately it's about letting go of who we think we are, or who we think we should be, when we encounter true love. The boys from Boston make it hilarious and the professor's Oscar-winning monologue make us all examine our love lives a little more closely. This is a modern romance movie that will keep you both interested and give you a few thought provoking ideas to discuss after, if you're in the mood.
* THE THOMAS CROWN AFFAIR. If you're looking for something a little more grown-up, it doesn't get any more romantic and sultry than this film. Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo make a remarkably sexy duo that are playing a cat and mouse game. There's art, exotic trips and a heist involved, making it all the more interesting to watch. While ladies may be inclined to pull out a Jennifer Aniston movie the next time a guy is over for a movie, teach him a few moves by putting on this film instead. You'll be glad you did.
* 10 THINGS I HATE ABOUT YOU. This movie is based on Shakespear's Taming of the Shrew, only it's done with a modern twist. It takes place in Seattle and we see the quirky guy trying to get the girl only by pawning a bad boy to woo the girl's icy and hip sister. It has hilarious one-liners and is sure to get you and your date laughing. Plus, the story line of the dorky guy attempting to land the cool girl is a tale as old as time.
* CAN'T HARDLY WAIT. Here's another high school movie to take you back. This is another movie about the outsider trying to snag the popular girl and after a wild night, he finally is able to confess his love. We love it because it touches on all of the stereotypical high school characters we've all encountered and shows that nice guys can finish first. It also shows that persistence pays off when it comes to love.
* IT'S COMPLICATED. This funny movie is about a divorced couple who starts sleeping together again. It's strange, but somehow it works for the couplefor a limited time, of course. There's life and love beyond 50 and this movie illustrates it perfectly. From hooking up in hotels at lunchtime to smoking pot while attending a party with their adult kids, this movie is packed with hilarious scenes that prove love causes you to do crazy things no matter what your age is.
* THE BREAK-UP. Breaking up is hard to do, but what if you have to live under the same roof as it happens? In the immortal words of Jerry Seinfeld, "Breaking up is like pushing over a Coke machine. It always takes more than one try," and this movie shows that even after it's over, it's never quite over until you've called it quits for good. Despite your best efforts, things won't always work out, but luckily you only need to find one person to make it work.

These date movies take us through the range of emotions when it comes to love without being too heavy to watch with someone you vaguely know. There's nothing like a movie to break the ice, so after you've done the formal dinners, invite your date over, pop the popcorn and cue up the Netflix for a date movie marathon that will let you both relax and enjoy the evening. A few laughs and romantic scenes certainly won't hurt your night.
