I have trained quite a number of coaches in my lifetime. In many cases, these people are enthusiastic, passionate, and always willing to step forward to help people. In my line of work, it also is imperative for me to know that there is help out there for anyone who seeks.
However, many people still don't know the existence of coaching. Hence, allow me to make a proposition. In order for you to understand coaching effectively, you first need to understand what a coach does.
Firstly, coaches are your answer to a gap in knowledge. If you really want to get an answer quickly, do you really think that going to Google is going to help you? Of course, if you can sift through dozens of pages quickly, it is likely you will eventually find your answer. Yet, it is probably more difficult to collate and integrate all the information you find than finding someone who is already well versed in what they do. They, would probably be able to give you the answer in half an hour of solid coaching than you could in three days of browsing.
If you ever wanted to accomplish more with your life, sure, you can go to the national library and do your whole bunch of research, and end up with the answer probably about three months down the road. On the other hand, within those three months, I personally utilized coaches and mentors to climb up to the upper echelons of various different areas of expertise. These include the one that I tend to be more famous for, Internet marketing. While I didn't have products to sell, it was so simple for me to acquire the knowledge and use it because I was interviewing well over 60 different experts in Internet marketing at the time when there was no one who could provide all this at one go. This enabled by book "The Secrets of Internet Millionaires" to rise to the top 10 on the Straits Times Bestseller's List for a few weeks. Not bad for someone who was in the industry for a couple of years.
Coaches are your answer to instant skills. At the same time, you may also realized that coaches who do have subject area expertise could probably give you advice as to what kinds of mistakes to avoid. This is imperative. If you know that there are mistakes to avoid, your journey would be more cost efficient. Now, I don't know whether you want to spend an hour, and pay a 200 bill for a coach, or waste several months, possibly a few tens of thousands of dollars, just to learn that you have to avoid this particular mistake. Now granted, I am quite sure that if you did it the latter way, it is likely that you would appreciate your lesson much more. But I learned a long time ago that you don't have to discover that you might die tomorrow to appreciate what you have today! That will be just plain stupid.
One more area where coaches typically add to your repertoire of personal development is their ability to speed up thinking. Think about it: all of your life you might have been driving down one road, even though you might be no expert in driving. You happen to know all the shortcuts along that road, and if there happen to be any jams or accidents along the way, it's easy for you to get out of that fix isn't it? Now, imagine that your coach is just like this expert. Any time you get into a jam, this expert wouldn't have to walk down the same path way just to tell you what to do. He knows exactly what to do. That's the beauty of a coach. You have the opportunity to tap into his speed of decision-making.
Now, consider that you are running a business. A decent business coach, will be able to provide you with direction, focus, skill, and effective decisions. It's almost like having a more mature business owner work for you, except that, well, he doesn't. In doing so, you not only are able to create greater value add, you also stop wasting time. And you and I both know that we only have 24 hours of that everyday.
So, consider you are now in the life transition. Perhaps someone in your life treated you badly, or you have just lost a loved one. It's very common to encounter dilemma and inertia at this point of time. a coach would be most suitable for you at this point of time because it can get you on your feet. One more thing, you might need someone to provide you with new perspective so that you can get your own motivation to kick in. This is the reason why I train Certified Motivational Coaches. these are people who understand the psychology of motivation. They also know how to remove motivational barriers to enable anyone to move forward in an effective way in their lives. As an illustration, I happen to know one of my coaches who was able to speak with someone he knew effectively enough such that he changed his old approach to communicating and develop a stronger relationship with his family. This is a life coaching application. Anyone who is well-versed in my methodology for coaching would be able to do this at least at a rudimentary and still helpful level.
So we have it: instant skills, avoidance of problems, and speed of decision-making. All this, on a silver platter, if you know how to leverage a well-trained coach.if you are seeking some coaches for help, you might want to drop me a note and I can refer you to the appropriate people.
