Interesting article at New York Times take a look:

DEBORAH and Leonard, Leigh and John and Sue and Mark met through dating services in Connecticut. Deborah and Leonard are to be married in June; Sue and Mark, in October, Leigh and John were wed a few years ago and now have a toddler.

Although they all say they had their own reasons for using a dating service, all but Leigh, who runs one, said they never thought they would.

'I never, never dreamed I'd use a dating service,' said Deborah Morgan, a 30-year-old from Bridgeport, who through Connecticut Black Singles, met Leonard Williams, 38, on St. Valentine's Day 1987. They became engaged on Valentine's Day 1988 and plan to marry this summer. 'But with all the things happening today,' she said, 'I figured I'd try it out.'

This year thousands of Connecticut singles are using dating services across the state. These services, say clients and those who run the businesses, are no longer for the desperate, the unattractive and the lonely. Growing in membership every year, they draw people who are too busy to look for mates on their own, those who dislike the bar scene and people who fear contracting sexually transmitted diseases.

'Years ago, dating services had a stigma of being for nerdy people,' said Debbie Mellon, who runs Big Buddies, a dating service for large women and the men who admire them. 'But times have changed and these services are more popular now because people - men and women - are too busy climbing up corporate ladders and many want more serious relationships and are sick of the meat markets.' Big Buddies, which started out in Stamford nearly two years ago, moved to Manhattan last spring and serves Connecticut, New York and New Jersey. Ms. Mellon said she had 650 active members. Now that looks like any other article you might find on the web these days, but there is a kicker it is from 1988. Yes 20 years ago. This is almost word for word could be applied to how people talked about online dating 10 years ago. The match making services slowed down that period, but now match makers are back into full swing as online dating starting to cool off due to impersonality of it. Trends change, and dating coach/pua is the next trend on horizon, even if for its novelty it will top the charts for a bit, and for the service it was created recently but in wont be leaving our society and culture for..... well until guys will stop wanting to meet more women aka never.
