eHarmony is one of the few online dating services that frequently offers free time and promotions like this. I think this is a good thing because eHarmony is considered expensive compared to some other services, but it's also a great service. I think that giving people a chance to try the service with deep discounts or free weekends is pretty important in that it gives a lot of people the chance to see how the service would work for them when they might not otherwise sign up.
In many cases, such as my personal case, people will sign up for eHarmony for just one month. This is actually a much more expensive way to do things over time. If you subscribe for three months and pay for it one month at a time, you spend far more money than if you signed up for a three-month subscription. Having done this myself, I do understand why people do it. We think, "If I have success right away, I don't want to waste money!" Or we might alternately think, "If I hate the service after one month, I don't want to waste money on the other two months." And those aren't unreasonable ways of thinking about things.
However, the truth of online dating is that:
* Popular dating sites tend to be very high quality. You may not like your results, but it's unlikely you'd hate the service in my experience.
* While it's nice to think you could meet someone right away, and it does happen, generally speaking finding that special someone in your first month using a dating service isn't likely.
