Since about the age of 17 years, I have been passionate about discovering what makes me tick, and what allows people to become wildly successful, while others fail miserably. So over time I have turned to the TOP SELF HELP BOOKS to find some answers... I wanted to educate myself and learn everything I could about turning my life around for the better.
Over the years I have read many self help books that didn't really help me at all. Some were fairly ordinary, while other books were just a rehash of information that I already knew. But there were also quite a few self help books that were outstanding, and really clicked with me. I'll talk about the ones that I consider the very best.
PSYCHO-CYBERNETICS BY MAXWELL MALTZ was the very first book that I read on personal development and psychology. It was an old book that belonged to my father that I found lying around, but once I read the table of contents I was intrigued and couldn't put the book down. It also laid the foundation for my desire to read more books on the subject.
Maxwell Maltz was actually a plastic surgeon who became curious about the mental and emotional changes that often took place in his patients after they had cosmetic procedures performed. He then went on a journey of discovery to find out what determined the self-image and self esteem of different people. His book is definitely an old classic that shaped the way I act and think now... highly recommended.
THINK AND GROW RICH BY NAPOLEON HILL is an all-time best of the best, "top self help books", that probably most of you would have read by now... if not, I recommend you go out and get a copy for yourself. I was about 20 years old when I read this book and it really added to my knowledge on top of what I took away from Psycho-Cybernetics.
I have read this book 3 times over the past 20 or so years and I find that I still get a lot out of it each time. Even though this book was written many years ago, a lot of what is taught is still highly relevant today in 2011.
REAL MAGIC BY DR. WAYNE W. DYER is a book that I read much later in life and again, it built on things that I learned from previous books. I have to give credit to Real Magic for introducing me to the concept of meditating on a daily basis. Meditation was something that I had never tried before, so reading about how to do it, finally encouraged me to give it a go... and I'm glad I did because it's now such a huge part of my life.
Real Magic also goes into spirituality (no I'm not religious) which I hadn't given much thought to, previous to reading the book. It talks about spirituality being an important part of having a successful life and also successful relationships.
