Self Confidence Is The Key

Self Confidence Is The Key
Confidence comes from knowing who you are, what your purpose in life is and a certainty in your abilities, gifts and skills. I actually think that a little cockiness might be a good thing. Not the in your face I am better than you attitude, but that thing that causes you to walk, talk and act differently. Confidence is not arrogance. Arrogance gives way to attitudes of superiority and self-importance and often is an overcompensation for something else that is missing.

For most, the thing that hinders or keeps people from achieving and accomplishing is not a lack of talent or skill, but rather a lack of self-confidence. What image do you see when you look in the mirror? There are a lot of great talented people living below their potential because of a lack of self-confidence and low self-esteem.

I love to people watch. I like to try to figure out what they do and what kind of person they are.

Can you really tell just from observing? Many times you can. How many times have you seen someone, walking tall, maybe with a swagger, dressed nice and your first thought is that person is so arrogant! And the fact is that they may be just the opposite.

Here are a few steps that will help you build your self-confidence.

1) Take back control of your life. Many times people who struggle with low self-confidence is a result that their life is out of control. They haven't cared for so long that it seems every part of their life is spinning out of control. Take a deep breath, slow down and start again.

2) Set smaller goals. What? Smaller goals? Often people set goals that are too lofty, unachievable and unrealistic. And when they don't achieve and accomplish them, they give up, quit and stop trying. Set smaller goals. Achieving smaller goals will lead you and give you the confidence you need to achieve the larger goals. Gain some small successes and you will soon find yourself climbing higher and accomplishing bigger and better things. You do need the big goal. The one that almost seems there is no way that you will ever get there. You need those. They keep you motivated and inspired to keep going. But without achieving smaller goals, you will never achieve the larger goals.

If your goal is to lose 50 pounds, you will never lose pound 50, until you lose pound 1. You can't lose 50 pounds in one week, but you can lose 1. Start small and your successes will grow.

3) Don't compare yourself with others. One of the biggest traps that people fall into is comparing their success or failure to those of others. You are setting yourself up for a huge letdown. I can't stress that enough. Measure your success against your goals and how far you have come.

4) Forgive yourself. Most people continue to rehearse their past. Past hurts, past failures and past disappointments. You cannot move forward when you continue to look to your past. Today is a new day. Learn from your past, live today and prepare for your tomorrow. Don't let your yesterday dictate your tomorrow. Yes you have made mistakes, move on. Yes you have let yourself down, move on. Yes people have hurt and disappointed you, move on.

Self-confidence might be the key that is keeping you from living the life that you desire to have. Confidence is a magnet for success. What kind of life and relationships are you attracting? It is paramount that when you look in the mirror you see someone who deserves success and happiness.
