Beautiful women are more self-centered, according to a new study.
There are plenty of advantages to being beautiful, research suggests.
According to some studies, beautiful people get hired faster, get paid more, are more likely to get a loan and are given milder prison sentences. Beauty can be correlated with higher self-esteem and more satisfying relationships.
A 2009 study found that beautiful people make more positive first impressions, and a summary of the beauty studies showed that
attractive people are seen as more sociable, healthier, more stable emotionally, more romantically and sexually experienced, and more reflective.
However, there are also potential disadvantages of being good looking. A recent study suggests that beautiful women are more likely to try to fit in.
The new research of the Open University, suggests that women who were labeled by their peers as beautiful, were more likely to conform to social norms and putting their own interests before the interests of others.

Surely there were developmental crises - turning points whichdemanded prolonged periods of wise decision-making but which also led toincreased growth. EXISTENTIAL CRISES, which overlap the above,come when we are forced to face such disturbing truths as the realizationthat: * I'm a failure * I'm too old to reach my life goals * I've been "passed over" for a promotion * I'm now a widow - single again * My life has no purpose * My marriage has ended in divorce * My illness is incurable * I have nothing to believe in * My house and possessions are all gone because of a disaster * I've been rejected because of my skin color These, and similar realizations, take time and effort toassimilate. They are changes in self-perception which can be deniedtemporarily but which in time must be faced realistically. After a greatspiritual victory, Elijah was chased by Jezebel and ran to the wildernesswhere he concluded that he was a failure. Jonah had similar thoughts ashe debated with God and surely after his calamities. Job struggled withthe question, "What has become of me, and what will happen now?" The Bible speaks to all three of these crises and givesdirection both to the trainee and to the trainer who is concerned with crisisintervention. In the lessons which follow crises of all three types willbe discussed in detail, but there are training techniques which apply to everycrisis situation. In hindsight, I'm partially thankful for that orange sign, for it signaled to my daughter that the world will not always be as gender-neutral as our home. Such a sign serves as a vestigial organ of our social body, like the human appendix that is now only capable of health problems and will one day disappear due to its utter lack of evolutionary value. But until it disappears, we cannot afford to ignore it.
The sign also reminded me that I am one of a growing number of "men working" to reconstruct much of the environment created by other men before us. I visualize uprooting the large orange sign and planting it in the middle of those ill-titled "Mommy and Me" classes where I first met some fellow stay-at-home dads with their babies.
In other words, I am a man working for my daughters to have the same options I had at their age, when I felt free to pursue my own happiness and no signs told me otherwise. While I may have taken the road less traveled, I felt confident the road ahead would be of my own making. May they experience the same freedom to pursue their own happiness, wherever life leads them-or to be more grammatically accurate, wherever they lead life.
