The day many of you dread is just around the corner- Valentine's Day. I know Im just one of many who has found myself spending the holiday eating chocolate while watching sappy romance movies with my mom. Or watching everyone else at work get flowers delivered while my desk is sadly bare. Or more recently struggling to find the perfect (sometimes last minute) gift for my husband.
Whether you think its a holiday invented by Hallmark or the worlds evil plot to point out your relational inadequacies, it reveals something telling about our society. Its the one day of the year that a deep longing to be loved comes out in even the most confident of us.
While we as Christians hope to satisfy that longing in Christ, we are still confronted with HOW to date. Weve all heard the shocking statistics. One in five relationships start online, 80% of Christians are sexually active before marriage, and the list goes on and on.
Were confronted with the reality that the dating game is changing as social media evolves and moral standards disintegrate. And perhaps the greatest tragedy is Christians don't often talk about it. They're told to sweep it under the rug, keep struggles in the dark, and figure it out by themselves. As we search for biblical answers in this modern society, the Seedbed team wants to stir the conversation. This Valentine's day we certainly dont have all the answers, but well share experiences and spiritual reflection on the dating game this week.
Get ready the first post, "Single at Seminary: An Online Dating Experience," goes live in less than an hour. In the meantime, share a funny dating experience with us in the comments section below.
